Omaha Poker - The Poker Players Guide
Many people avoid playing this variant of poker for many reasons, and of the most common reasons is simply that a majority of players do not understand the rules of the game.
This however is a very poor excuse as Omaha poker is very similar to Texas Hold'em, and it is definitely an action type of game that can harvest some very large pots.
Omaha Poker has some small yet subtle differences to the game play than Texas Hold'em and the main difference is that instead of
players being dealt two Pocket Cards at the beginning of each game in Omaha Poker they are dealt four.
The other big difference is that at the Showdown part of the game players are only allowed to use two of their Pocket cards and three of the Community Cards to make a
five card poker hand.
Omaha Hi Low Poker
There is also a Hi Low version of Omaha Poker, and every aspect of the game is identical to the standard Omaha game above except at the Showdown stage of the game it is the
players who have the best poker hand (Hi hand) and also the Lowest (low hand) hand who take the pot.
The pot is split equally between these to players with half going to the best poker hand and half to the player with the lowest hand.
Omaha Poker - Game Types
There are three basic types of Omaha Poker and these are only different by virtue of the betting limits and amounts being structured differently, all gaming action is the same and the rules are identical in each bar for the betting options.
The first game is the No Limit version, and in such games you are permitted to wager as much as you like in each betting round, with no upper limits, if you have the chips you can bet them!
The next is the Fixed Limit games, when playing this type of Omaha game you are limited to a maximum amount you can wager. This limit is preset by the poker site you are playing at,
and the amount you must wager is clearly displayed.
Finally there is the Pot Limit game and as you may have guessed by the name the maximum you can ever bet will be the current value of the Pot.
